Application Engineering

Application engineering is where ATSCO Sales & Service delivers the most value — translating process requirements into precisely specified equipment that performs reliably under real operating conditions. Our factory-trained application engineers bring deep technical knowledge of valve actuation, process control, fluid mechanics, and industrial instrumentation to every project, serving industrial customers throughout the Rocky Mountain region from our Heber City, Utah office.

Many industrial equipment failures are specification failures — the wrong actuator torque, an under-rated valve body material, or a mismatched control valve Cv that leads to poor loop performance or cavitation damage. ATSCO's application engineers prevent these problems by asking the right questions at the start of every project: What is the fluid? What are the operating pressure and temperature? What are the flow conditions? What area classification applies? What control system interface is required? The answers drive a specification that is right for the application.

Actuator sizing is one of ATSCO's core application engineering capabilities. We perform breakaway torque and running torque calculations for every valve type using manufacturer-supplied valve torque curves, process pressure and temperature data, and actuator safety factor guidelines. For modulating control applications, we analyze the entire torque profile across the valve travel range to ensure the actuator and positioner provide stable, repeatable control throughout the operating envelope.

Control valve application engineering at ATSCO includes Cv calculation, trim selection, noise analysis, and cavitation assessment. Our engineers use industry-standard sizing methods (ISA S75, IEC 60534) to properly size control valves for liquid, gas, steam, and two-phase service. Proper control valve sizing is critical for achieving the process control performance specified by the process licensor — and ATSCO provides the technical rigor to get it right.

For instrumentation projects, ATSCO's engineers specify flow meters, pressure transmitters, level sensors, and temperature instruments based on detailed process conditions analysis. We prepare instrument data sheets, perform flow meter sizing calculations, and review installation requirements to ensure each instrument will perform to its specified accuracy and rangeability under actual service conditions. This level of technical support is what Rocky Mountain industrial customers have come to expect from ATSCO Sales & Service.
